Any orchid enthusiast who wants to have beautiful and healthy flowers needs to know some simple facts about these exotic plants. That is what always holds many people back when it comes to gardening orchids because if you don’t know how to easily grow these flowers you will not be able to see the results that you are aiming for. For the best results in gardening orchids you should understand what you need to know in order to have the best orchids growing in your entire neighborhood quickly. Let’s find out exactly what you need to know in order to start growing these exotic flowers today.

Soil

The life force of where your orchids get their energy and nutrition from is an essential ingredient in gardening orchids correctly. The precise soil medium that is needed can be found in many garden outlets around your local area. The materials that are contained in these mixes include organic and inorganic matter. Here are some examples of the materials contained in most of these mixes: coconut husks, redwood bark, fern fiber, sphagnum moss, perlite, lava rock, charcoal, and alifor. These are just some of the basic materials used in gardening orchids.

Temperature

Setting up your orchid environment includes using the exact temperature that your flowers will need to thrive for years into the future. The temperature differs for every orchid species that happens to grow on this planet. Although I can’t list every orchid and its temperature I can give you some basic temperature guidelines that are crucial for these flowers. When gardening orchids you need to make certain the temperature doesn’t drop below 60 degrees Fahrenheit or go above 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Some species of orchids may be able to tolerate levels this high or low, but you should avoid exposing them to these two extremes.

Humidity

An important yet often overlooked element is supplying correct amounts of moisture into the habitat of your flowers. If you plan on gardening orchids you will have to keep this in mind when planting these exotic flowers. Most orchids are grown in tropical areas such as rainforests and jungles which have high amounts of moisture in the atmosphere. Keeping your plants in its normal habitat will allow them to flower much quicker and easier. You can add more moisture if needed with a simple humidifier that can be bought in any hardware store. A 60-80% humidity level should be supplied to these flowers and a hydrometer can give you the most accurate results.

Light

The last important element of gardening orchids we will discuss is light. You can either use sunlight or artificial light when growing these plants. If you are using sunlight to get your orchids to flower you should filter the light hitting your flowers. A piece of cloth or even a curtain can be used to block out most of the sunlight that can harm your plants leaves. With fluorescent lights you will not have to filter it because it delivers the exact amount of light that is need for healthy plants.

These are some basic orchid care facts that you should know before you begin gardening orchids in your home or garden.
